Bob Dwyer's Hot Seven

The London based Hot Seven was established (as Bob Dwyer's hot Six) in January 1988 and played its first date at the Princess Royal in Brentford, where the regular Thursday night residency continues to this day.

The style of the band is very much it's own but influenced by the great classic bands of the 1920s: King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong and Bix Beiderbecke, to name but a few. The combination of talent and experience, which this band possesses, recreates the atmosphere of those early days and makes listening or dancing to the Hot Seven an enjoyable musical experience.

During the last five years, the band has been active in jazz clubs throughout the UK and Europe, including the prestigious annual festivals held in Bude, In Cornwall and Breda, in the Netherlands. The band has also appeared at the Upton and Isle of Man Jazz festivals. Cassette tapes of the band have proved to be very popular with audiences everywhere.

The Hot Seven also makes a specialty of concerts, wedding receptions, and carnivals, business promotions and private parties - where all musical tastes are readily catered for.

The Hot Seven comprises long established musicians, all well known from their previous work with other bands.

ABOUT THE MUSICIANS
BOB DWYER (trombone/leader) First became interested in jazz listening to his clarinet-playing elder brother, Frank. After dabbling with a borrowed trumpet and an antiquated banjo, Bob bought his first trombone at the tender age of 16, joining Mitzi Mitton's N.O.J.B. one year later.

During his army National Service in Cyprus, he led a band called the Alekeefic Stompers. On his demob, he formed his first Hot Six. He disbanded this after 3 years to join Steve Lane's Southern Stompers - an association, which lasted 17 years. In the autumn of 1987, he re-formed his Hot Six - which became the Hot Seven in 1996. Bob likes all kinds of jazz music, but his main interest lies in the early classic jazz bands.

He started playing jazz in the late "fifties. After demob from the RAF, he joined Tony Keating's New Orleans Stompers, which later became the Brian Green Band. He then spent ten years with the TJ4 before joing the Hot Six in 1988. Alan's playing recalls the trumpet artistry of Louis Armstrong and Bix Beiderbecke.

BERNARD STUTT (clarinet) started playing jazz whilst serving in the band of the 1st Greenjackets. He later joined the Frog Island Jazz Band where he stayed for 22 years. He joined the Hot Six in 1988 and is a great admirer of Johnny Dodds and the King Oliver bands of the 1920's.

JOHN BAYNE (string bass/bass sax). Since leaving Fife in 1961, John has played in various bands on the London scene, notably the RJ4 with Alan Snook. He joined the Hot Six in 1992. John plays nine different instruments and enjoys writing band arrangements. He is an admirer of the 1920's bass sax star, Adrian Rollini.

The music is unamplified and the melodic repertoire is played in a way to appeal to everybody and not just the avid jazz fan. The volume of the group is specifically designed not to intrude on conversations. Listen, get up and dance or just relax and talk to your neighbour.
